Urgent Help Needed Today to Stop Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu

Your action is needed today, before 4 July, to help stop the cruel spectacle of jallikattu.

Every year in certain districts of Tamil Nadu, people chase and taunt bulls for fun in an event called "jallikattu". During jallikattu events, huge groups of men and boys throw themselves on top of bulls in an effort to "tame" the animals and win prizes.

Recent PETA investigations at five jallikattu events have documented that workers tie bulls so tightly that the animals experience severe discomfort and pain, hit the animals with their fists, twist and pull the animals' tails, jump on the animals and wrestle them to the ground. Not only is jallikattu cruel to animals, it also poses a threat to public safety. In one four-day period in January 2011, 215 people sustained injuries during jallikattu events. Of these, 154 were spectators. Two people died.

PETA India has filed a petition with the Supreme Court against the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Jallikattu Act No 27 of 2009, a state law that permits Jallikattu, pointing out that this cruel event both violates the spirit of the national Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and causes numerous injuries and deaths every year to human participants and spectators. The case is scheduled to be heard on 4 July 2011.

The Ministry of Environment & Forests has the power to bring an end to this cruel game. Please write to the Ministry right now and ask them to support PETA's case and push for a complete ban on Jallikattu.

Peritoneal mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma is the name given to the cancer that attacks the lining of the abdomen. This type of cancer affects the lining that protects the contents of the abdomen and which also provides a lubricating fluid to enable the organs to move and work properly.

The peritoneum is made of two parts, the visceral and parietal peritoneum. The visceral peritoneum covers the internal organs and makes up most of the outer layer of the intestinal tract. Covering the abdominal cavity is the parietal peritoneum.

Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma

Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling due to a buildup of fluid in the abdomen. Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.

Peritoneal mesothelioma has two clinical types which can be differentiated with the help of CT findings, the "dry" type and the "wet". It is classified as "dry" when there are multiple tiny masses or one dominant localized mass and generally little or no ascites. The "wet" type has widespread small nodules, no dominant mass and a presence of ascites. If fluid is found, the process of eliminating it is through paracentesis; however the analysis of this fluid has limited diagnostic significance. Normally, a definitive diagnosis may be obtained through tissue biopsy.

Federal student loan consolidation

In the United States the Federal Direct Student Loan Program (FDLP) include consolidation loans that allow students to consolidate Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, and Federal Perkins Loans into one single debt. This results in reduced monthly repayments and a longer term for the loan. Unlike the other loans, consolidation loans have a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan.

Interest rates and payments

Consolidation loans have longer terms than other loans. Debtors can choose terms of 10–30 years. Although the monthly repayments are lower, the total amount paid over the term of the loan is higher than would be paid with other loans. The fixed interest rate is calculated as the weighted average of the interest rates of the loans being consolidated, assigning relative weights according to the amounts borrowed, rounded up to the nearest 0.125%, and capped at 8.25%. Some features of the original consolidated loans, such as postgraduation grace periods and special forgiveness circumstances, are not carried over into the consolidation loan, and consolidation loans are not universally suitable for all debtors.

History

The Federal Loan Consolidation Program was created in 1986. In 1998, the United States Congress changed the interest rate to the aforementioned fixed rate weighted mean, effective February 1, 1999. Consolidation loans taken out before that date had a variable interest rate, determined by the individual FDLP loan origination center (e.g., in the case of a university, that university) or FFELP lender (e.g., a third party bank).

In 2005, the Government Accountability Office considered consolidating consolidation loans so that they were exclusively managed through the FDLP. Based on several assumptions about future variations in interest rates, the loan volume, the percentage of defaulters, cost estimates from the United States Department of Education, it concluded that while doing so would incur an additional cost of $46 million, caused by the higher administrative costs of the FDLP compared to the FFELP, this would be offset by a $3,100 million saving comprised in part of avoiding $2,500 million in subsidy costs. In 2008, turmoil in the financial and credit markets has led to the suspension of many loan consolidation programs, including Sallie Mae, Nelnet and Next Student.

It was Friday, dress down day for employees, and of course she walked in like usual wearing another jean skirt. “Uh no…no I’m not. I guess umm I’m single.” I wonder why he asked me that. “Why do you ask?” It would be cool to uh go out with him but…but he’s so much older. “So is there a reason why you wanted to know?”

He shrugged his shoulders as his eyes looked away. He looked back at her. “I don’t know. Well I do but thought no, she wouldn’t go for that.” She asked what he was referring to. He shrugged his shoulders again. “I don’t know…umm maybe going out on a date with me?” he said.

“Uhhh what…you…and me…on a…on a real live uh date?” she answered. He smiled and nodded and told her yes as he looked her straight in the eye. She said she wasn’t sure about going on a date with a fellow employee…one who is a manager in the company. He said any date they had would be kept between them. No one would ever know. He sounded convincing enough and she said “Okay. Now what…do you want my address or how would you like to do this? I can meet you somewhere or what?”

“Here’s fine…meet me back here at say…6:30” he told her.

“Here…in your office? You want me to just come and meet you here in your office?” she asked. It sounded odd and weird to her but she agreed.

Cool, he told himself. 6:15 came so he quickly changed out of his suit and put on casual clothes waiting for her to arrive. She came in nice slacks and a nice top but they didn’t show off all those “extraordinary assets” he wanted to see on her. Damn…well we can change that, he told himself.

“Well great…hi…I’m so glad you’re here” he said. She felt weird being at the office and wanted to get out of there. Nobody was there, except him and her. “Wow, you always look special. I mean nice…you’ve always got something on that stands out. Like today…that was an extremely nice outfit. I loved it…a lot.” He smiled and looked her in the eyes. Pakistan 'militant' group denies Osama Bin Laden link

Pakistani militant group Harkut ul-Mujahideen (HuM) has denied US media reports that it had links with Osama Bin Laden and was part of his Pakistan support network.

Investigations into a mobile phone used by Bin Laden's courier are said to have divulged contact with the group, according to a New York Times report.

The phone was recovered during the 2 May US raid that killed both men.

Although banned there, analysts say HuM has links with Pakistani intelligence.

"Al-Qaeda had their own discipline, their own thinking, their own organisation. We have never ever been in touch with Osama," a spokesman for the group told the BBC.

The BBC's M Ilyas Khan says that it is difficult to establish if the group has had recent contact with al-Qaeda, but adds that it certainly has a long history of co-operation with al-Qaeda.

Our correspondent says the latest claims come at a time when Pakistan's military and intelligence services are under increasing pressure from the West, where there are suspicions that some elements of Pakistan's security establishment provide backing to militant groups and may even have helped protect Bin Laden.

This may be one reason why the group is denying any links with al-Qaeda, our correspondent says.

The report comes days after a Pakistani brigadier serving at the army's main headquarters was detained for allegedly having contacts with the banned extremist group Hizb-ut Tahrir. He denies the allegation.

Four majors in the Pakistani army were also questioned for involvement with banned militant organisations.

Earl is the 5th named storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. Tropical Srrom Earl is packing winds of 40 miles per hour, and is headed in almost a due west direction at 16 miles per hour. As of 5Pm EST, Earl was located at 14.4°N 32.2°W.

The projected path that the National Hurricane Center thinks the tropical storm will take is one that is generally westward for the next 72 hours, and then bending slightly more to the WNW thereafter. They have Earl just North of the Leeward Islands by next Monday. They do predict that Earl will reach hurricane status sometime this coming weekend. Remember though that this far out, predictions are extremely inaccurate. Will Earl affect the United States at all, unlike Danielle? Right now it looks like it could be a possibility, however many computer models seem to think it will also curve north before striking the US.

AR Rahman’s ‘Swagatham‘ to be Common Wealth Games Official Theme Song to welcome CWG Players and Group of Ministers on Common Wealth Games has finalised the theme song and it will be presented before the public in 10 days.

“GoM has finalised the theme song. A.R. Rahman will give final touches and it will be presented before the people in 10 days,” said Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy after the two-hour long GoM meeting in Nirman Bhawan.

“The theme song will be the last song of the opening ceremony,” added Reddy.

An official of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee said the song would be previewed at 9.45 AM on Monday.

Jaipal Reddy chaired the meeting of the GoM after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh intervened to take stock of the much-criticised preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

“The Group of Ministers heard a presentation on the theme song by AR Rahman. We discussed the theme song with Shyam Benegal and Bharat Bala, as well as Rahman, and we approved it in principle,” Jaipal Reddy said.

World's worst traffic jam

A massive traffic jam in north China that stretches for dozens of miles and hit its 10-day mark on Tuesday stems from road construction in Beijing that won't be finished until the middle of next month, an official said.

Bumper-to-bumper gridlock spanning for 60 miles (100 kilometers) with vehicles moving little more than a half-mile (one kilometer) a day at one point has improved since this weekend, said Zhang Minghai, director of Zhangjiakou city's Traffic Management Bureau general office.

Some drivers have been stuck in the jam for five days, China Central Television reported Tuesday. But Zhang said he wasn't sure when the situation along the Beijing-Zhangjiakou highway would return to normal.

The traffic jam started Aug. 14 on a stretch of the highway that is frequently congested, especially after large coalfields were discovered in Inner Mongolia, Zhang said. Traffic volume has increased 40 percent every year.

New York state won hundreds of millions of dollars in the Federal "Race to the Top" competition. The Education Department is expected to name the other second-round winners Tuesday afternoon.

he U.S. Department of Education confirmed Tuesday morning that New York won part of the $3.4 billion that the federal government had set aside to award states who could document that they would use the money to implement certain overhauls. Those changes include greater teacher accountability, the use of data systems and support for the growth of charter schools.

"That will just make a huge difference in the long term," said Merryl Tisch, chancellor of the New York Board of Regents. New York stands to win as much as $700 million in the contest. Ms. Tisch said New York won "pretty close" to what it had requested.

The Education Department is expected to name the other winners of the second round of its Race to the Top competition Tuesday afternoon.

Eighteen states and the District of Columbia were named finalists in July. Tennessee and Delaware were awarded $600 million in the first round of the competition in March.

Ms. Tisch said the prize money will allow the state to build a robust data system to help track student progress, transform the lowest performing schools and create a teacher evaluation and certification system that will help identify and reward top teachers, but also move weaker teachers out of the system. She said the money will also help New York come up with a statewide curriculum based on the common core standards.

New York recently acknowledged that it had for years grossly inflated the number of children proficient in math and English and adjusted its standards to better reflect true proficiency. Those new numbers show the state has a long way to go to overhaul its education system.

New York's win comes three months after a hard-fought battle in Albany to pass legislation that increased the number of charter schools in the state, and also set parameters for a teacher evaluation system that takes student test scores into account.

   On Monday a dismissed policeman Rolando Mendoza armed with an automatic rifle seized a

bus carrying 25 tourists in the Philippines capital Manila in an effort to be reinstated. Following initial

successful negotiations and the release of nine of the hostages, the disgruntled former police officer

opened fire on his hostages. The police stormed the bus about 20 minutes later. There is speculation as

to why the police failed to enter the bus before the eight tourists were shot dead. Hong Kong officials

have issued a travel warning urging all flights to the Philippines to be cancelled. The warning also calls

on Hong Kong nationals to leave the Philippines as soon as possible. Flags are flying at half-mast in

Hong Kong to commemorate the victims as the stock exchange observed a minute's silence for the hijack

victims. The survivors of the incident were chartered to Hong Kong via two planes accompanied by

doctors and counselors. The Philippines President Benigno Aquino has admitted that there were

deficiencies in the operation, promising a "thorough investigation" into the incident.

The divorce of golfer Tiger Woods and wife Elin Nordegren was finalized Monday, according to a joint statement issued by their attorneys.

The marriage's end comes nine months after allegations surfaced that Woods carried on several extramarital affairs.

"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," the statement said. "While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us."

The judgment, issued Monday in Bay County, Florida, Circuit Court, allows for "shared parenting of their two children," their attorneys said in a statement.The estranged couple asked for privacy as they "adjust to a new family situation."

In the dissolution of marriage petition filed Monday, Nordegren cites the marriage as "irretrievably broken" as the reason for divorce.

According to the document, the couple reached a settlement agreement July 3 in which they agreed to a joint parenting plan.

Both Woods and Nordegren agreed to waive the 20-day delay period offered in Florida before a final judgment.

"The parties have been separated for a substantial period of time ... and the delay would generate unnecessary public attention," according to the waivers.

The couple were married October 5, 2004.

Allegations of infidelity first began to surface in November when Woods crashed his Cadillac Escalade

into a fire hydrant and tree outside his family's home in Orlando.

The November 27 incident, which left him with a sore neck and a cut on his lip that required five stitches to close, also set in motion the crash of his storybook life.

A few days beforehand, the National Enquirer had reported he was having an affair with a New York nightclub hostess, who denied it. But that allegation was followed by others, and Woods' tightly controlled world and image soon began to crumble.

Just after Christmas he entered a rehabilitation center, where he stayed for 45 days getting treatment for undisclosed "issues."

"It was to take a hard look at myself, and I did, and I've come out better," he said in April when he made his return to the PGA tour.

Woods also has acknowledged that he engaged in multiple extramarital affairs over the course of his nearly six-year marriage.

“Animals need to have safe sex, too!” Luna says in the campaign, in which he’s pictured with his canine pal, Frey. He encourages people to stop unwanted pregnancies by “fixing” their animals so that they can’t breed.

Why do Luna and PETA want everyone to spay or neuter their animals? One unspayed female cat can produce 36 cats in just one and a half years—an unneutered male can help create limitless litters of kittens. Every year, millions of unwanted dogs and cats are dumped at overcrowded animal shelters, where most are put to death. The less fortunate ones will be turned out to fend for themselves in all extremes of weather, lose battles with traffic and disease, have no constant food source, and perhaps even be stolen by laboratory dealers or used as bait by dogfighters. Simple surgery (spaying for females, neutering for males) is the solution.

“Dog and cat populations can get out of control quickly, which is why so many of them pour into local animal shelters,” says PETA’s vice president of communications, Lisa Lange. “Everyone wants to stop killing innocent dogs and cats, but the only way to make that happen is to neuter and spay.”

India beat Pakistan to reach Asia Cup Final

India beat Pakistan by three wickets in a thrilling encounter in Dambulla to reach the final of Asia Cup 2010. Pakistan and Bangladesh are out of the tournament. India will take on Sri Lanka in the final.

India's sensational victory over Pakistan sent both India and Sri Lanka to the final, even though both teams will meet once more in a league match. That is termed as a rehearsal before the final.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They bowled out for 267 in 49.3 overs. Salman Butt was the top scorer with 74, while Kamran Akmal scored 51. Shoaib Malik made 39, Shahid Afridi 32, Imran Farhat 25 and Umar Akmal 21.

For India, Praveen Kumar took 3 wickets, while Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh took 2 wickets each. Chasing a victory target of 268, India started cautiously, but lost Sehwag early.

Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni added 98 runs for the third wicket. Things were going well for India, but Kamran Akmal played the tricks and provoked Gambhir to an ugly spat in the drinks break over a caught-behind appeal.

The umpires and Dhoni had to intervene to calm things down. But Gambhir lost concentration and was out for 83. Dhoni departed after making 57. Rohit Sharma scored 22.

Suresh Raina and Harbhajan batted well. Raina was ran out in the last over. He scored 34. India needed 3 runs from the last 2 balls. However, Harbhajan hit Mohammad Aamer to a six and India won the match by three wickets.

India reached 271/7 in 49.5 overs. For Pakistan, Saeed Ajmal took 3 wickets. Gautam Gambhir was declared "Man of the Match". It was the highest-ever run chase in Dambulla in a D/N game.

Production

Shooting began in the southern part of Tumkur , Karnataka at the end of October 2008. During filming, Mani Ratnam became ill which delayed the filming for a few months in 2009. However, the film began its last schedule in August 2009. The film finished filming and went into post production by October 2009. Manikandan was hired as the film's DOP or cinematographer. However he was replaced in early 2009 by Santosh Sivan.

This film have numerous action scenes and stunts performed by the actors. The stunts are directed by Mani Ratnam and are choreographed by Peter Hein, who received Filmfare action award for the Hindi version of Ghajini and Anniyan. The Kerala martial art Kalarippayattu is also featured in the film. Dancer Astad Deboo choreographed a passionate chase scene andtandav dance between Abhishek and Aishwarya for the film. Indian fashion designerSabyasachi Mukherjee designed Aishwarya Rai's costumes in the film.

Raavan has been shot in numerous locations around India including the forests of Karnataka (Tumkur), Kerala (Athirappilly Falls), Ooty,Jhansi, Kolkata, Mahabaleshwar and in the Malshej Ghats in Maharashtra.

Critical reception

Upon release, the film received mostly negative reviews from critics for its content, though its visual style and cinematography was praised by some of the critics. On review aggregation website, ReviewGang, the film scored 4.5/10 based on 10 critic reviews. Rajeev Masand of IBNgave the film 1.5/5 and said, "Despite some eye-watering camerawork and a stunning action piece in the film's climax, the film -- especially its first half -- is a carelessly edited mess of long scenes that make little sense when strung together". Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama rated it 1.5/5 and said, "On the whole, Raavan is a king-sized disappointment, in terms of content". Raja Sen of Rediff rated it 2/5 and said, "Raavan truly and tragically fails us is in taking one of our greatest epics, and making it unforgivably boring". Sukanya Venkatraghavan of Filmfare rated the film 3/5 and said, "Raavan has its moments but it lacks depth. The first half is fairly riveting but the second half slowly slips into a coma". Nikhat Kazmi of Times of India rated it favourably at 3.5/5 saying, "There are enough punches in the second half to keep the momentum going, but by and large, the film scores mostly on art and aesthete" Cath Clarke of The Guardiangave the film a rating of 2/5 and found it sexist.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor "tweeted"his apology around midnight to all those hurt by his "cattle class"remark.

Tweeting from Liberia, Tharoor's apology came a day after the Congress party publicly reprimanded him for stating that he would travel "cattle class in solidarity with all our holy cows" in a message posted on the social networking site Twitter.

Tharoor said the phrase 'cattle class' was used by a scribe and he had only repeated it.

"It'sa silly expression but means no disrespect to economy class travellers,only to airlines for herding us in like cattle," said the minister.

Eventhough Tharoor tweeted an apology, but it was not good enough for theRajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. At an iftaar party, Gehlotapparently told the media that
'it was unfortunate and unbecoming on his part to make such comments'.

"In my view he should tender his resignation as a minister," said Gehlot.

Gehlot said since Tharoor represents the government, his 'cattle class and holy cows' comments are unacceptable.

As expected, Facebook is slimming down. The new "Lite" version of Facebook is available for users in the United States and India, according to TechCrunch.

The new version of the site appears to be much cleaner and simpler. It appears, at a quick glance, to be a better site for Facebook newbies or for anyone who finds the current site overwhelming or noisy. It also pushes the old-school Facebook apps off a cliff, which is just as well for the newest Facebook-connected services. Try it at lite.facebook.com.

The major visual change in Facebook Lite, compared Facebook "Classic", is simply that most of the the navigation and info page that was on the left of the page is now gone. The user is not distracted by the mostly superfluous details that resided there. The input box is also gone, replaced by buttons (Write, Post Photos, Post Video) that pop down the actual input forms only when needed.

The new layout feels simpler and faster, almost Twitter-like.

Other tweaks that diehards might notice: the "Friends" tab in the top navigation of Facebook Classic is missing in Facebook Lite, replaced by a new "Events" link that opens up a page of invitations.

All pages on the site seem to be affected. They are simpler, easier to read, and faster. They load faster, partly due to what appears to be HTML optimization at Facebook. My profile page in Facebook Lite weighed in at 11K, compared to 44K in the Classic version. However, the smaller pages may also come courtesy of a dramatically decreased advertising load, which I doubt we can count on continuing, once Facebook Lite enters the mainstream.

International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000), better known as 3G or 3rd Generation, is a family of standards for mobile telecommunications defined by the International Telecommunication Union,^[1] which includes GSM EDGE, UMTS, and CDMA2000 as well as DECT and WiMAX. Services include wide-area wireless voice telephone, video calls, and wireless data, all in a mobile environment. Compared to 2G and 2.5G services, 3G allows simultaneous use of speech and data services and higher data rates (up to 14.4 Mbit/s on the downlink and 5.8 Mbit/s on the uplink with HSPA+). Thus, 3G networks enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) defined the third generation (3G) of mobile telephony standards – IMT-2000 – to facilitate growth, increase bandwidth, and support more diverse applications. For example, GSM (the current most popular cellular phone standard) could deliver not only voice, but also circuit-switched data at download speeds up to 14.4 kbps. But to support mobile multimedia applications, 3G had to deliver packet-switched data with better spectral efficiency, at far greater speeds.

Technical details

Relations between ISO Base Media File Format, MP4 File Format, 3GPP file format and 3GPP2 file format. Based on the 3GPP2 technical specification published on 18 May 2007.^[6]

The 3GP and 3G2 file formats are both structurally based on the ISO base media file format defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 - MPEG-4 Part 12 ^[7]^[8], but older versions of the 3GP file format did not use some of its features.^[6] 3GP and 3G2 are container formats similar to MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4), which is also based on MPEG-4 Part 12. The 3GP and 3G2 file format were designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones.

3GP and 3G2 are similar standards, but with some differences:

3GPP file format was designed for GSM-based Phones and may have the filename extension .3gp
3GPP2 file format was designed for CDMA-based Phones and may have the filename extension .3g2

The 3GP file format stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC, HE-AAC v1 or Enhanced aacPlus (HE-AAC v2). 3GPP allowed use of AMR and H.263 codecs in the ISO base media file format (MPEG-4 Part 12), because 3GPP specified the usage of the Sample Entry and template fields in the ISO base media file format as well as defining new boxes to which codecs refer. These extensions was registered by the registration authority for code-points in ISO base media file format ("MP4 Family" files).^[9] ^[10] For the storage of MPEG-4 media specific information in 3GP files, the 3GP specification refers to MP4 and the AVC file format, which are also based on the ISO base media file format. The MP4 and the AVC file format specifications described usage of MPEG-4 content in the ISO base media file format.^[7]

The 3G2 file format can store the same video streams and most of audio streams used in the 3GP file format. In addition, 3G2 stores audio streams as EVRC, EVRC-B, EVRC-WB, 13K (QCELP), SMV or VMR-WB, which was specified by 3GPP2 for use in ISO base media file format.^[10] The 3G2 specification also defined some enhancements to 3GPP Timed Text. 3G2 file format does not store Enhanced aacPlus (HE-AAC v2) and AMR-WB+ audio streams.^[6] For the storage of MPEG-4 media (MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-4 Part 3 - AAC, MPEG-4 Part 10 - H.264/AVC) in 3G2 files, the 3G2 specification refers to the MP4 file format and the AVC file format specification, which described usage of this content in the ISO base media file format. For the storage of H.263 and AMR content 3G2 specification refers to the 3GP file format specification.^[11]

Some cell phones use the .mp4 extension for 3GP video.

A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate.

Device support

Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format (memory, maximum filesize for playback and recording, and resolution limits exist and vary).
Some newer/higher-end phones without 3G capabilities may also playback and record in this format (again, with said limitations).
Audio imported from CD onto a PlayStation 3 when it is set to encode to the MPEG-4 AAC codec will copy onto USB devices in the 3GP format.

Software support

When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with MPlayer and VLC media player. Programs such as Media Player Classic, The KMPlayer, Totem, RealPlayer, QuickTime, and GOM Player can also be used.

3GP files can be encoded and decoded with FFmpeg.^[12]

Many people have been compensated for injuries sustained in an accident Until 1982, such compensation was usually accomplished by payment in a lump sum. A change in Federal law that year created what are now known as structured settlements, an alternative to lump-sum payments where the injured party receives monthly or annual payments over a period of time.

A structured settlement can offers several advantages over a one-time, lump sum payout. With a structured settlement, the security of long-term income is guaranteed. If the victim is confined to a wheel chair or needs constant bed rest and nursing attention, a structured settlement can make certain that sufficient funds will be in hand to pay for the care. This allows the patient and/or their family to concentrate on health care without having to be overly concerned with the machinations of investing a lump-sum payment.

Structured Settlements allow income to be spread over time, which is safer than a lump sum payment. Studies have shown that some 30% of those who receive lump-sum payments as compensation for accident or injury spend the money within two months, and some 90% have spent the money within five years.

A lump-sum payout must be invested and administered. Unless the victim or their family has experience investing large amounts of money, they will have to hire a financial advisor to handle the sum. Any returns on the invested money are taxable, and there is always the risk of handing the investment to the wrong person and having the money simply disappear due to theft or mismanagement.
A structured settlement can prevent this. The income from a structured settlement is tax-free, both at the Federal and state levels. Because the money is handed out in smaller increments, there is less need for a financial advisor. And with no financial advisor, there is less of a chance of theft or loss of the funds, which would leave the victim without financial aid or income.

Structured settlements are often ideal under the following circumstances:
Guardianship cases where the victim dies and leaves minor children. A structured settlement can insure that funds are available for food, housing and education for the surviving family members.
Workers compensation cases where the injured party is unable to work for a protracted length of time. A structure will allow steady income to insure that the victim and their family will continue to have steady income.
Disabilities of a temporary or permanent nature that require extensive health care or recovery time.

The party that pays in an accident or injury case can benefit from payments over time, as they can set up an annuity to pay the funds over time. The funds are invested with the payments coming out of the proceeds. It’s “hands off” for the paying party, and they typically pay out a smaller amount of money in present dollars than if they paid in a lump sum.

There are many things to consider if you are in a position to receive a large amount of compensation for injury or accident. One of the options may involve payments over time. Before you act, you should learn as much as you can about structures in order to determine if such an agreement is right for you.
